Saturday 9: Every Time You Go Away (1985)

Sunday, April 28, 2019

1) This song is about separation. Who is the last person you said goodbye (or maybe just "so long") to?
Today marks my Dad's 19th Death Anniversary. The hardest and most painful goodbye, I have
to go through.

2) This week's featured artist, Paul Young, was a gifted athlete during his school days and briefly played professional football (aka soccer). Sam enjoys playing tennis, though her serve doesn't give Serena Williams anything to worry about. What's something you enjoy doing, even if you don't excel?
I love baking and cooking. I may not be good at it just as long as my husbands enjoy my cooking, then I am okay with it.

3) Mr. Young and his wife Stacy were married for 31 years, until her death in 2018. What do you think is the key to a happy marriage?
Whenever we have petty quarrels we usually talk about it before going to sleep. We seldom have  arguments. I am very much open with everything with my husband. I am just lucky marrying someone who prefers spending time with me and my son than hanging out with his friends. Our happy place will always be our home.

4) Paul Young's performance of this hit song was one of the highlights of the July 1985 Live Aid Concert. This international benefit raised more than $100 million to alleviate hunger in Ethiopia. Tell us about a charity you support.
I am not supporting any charity. But, I am supporting JOSEPH who has hydrocephalus and a cleft palate. This little boy is a fighter. The doctor said he won't last for a month and now he is 2 years old and turning 3 years old soon. I hope OPERATION SMILE can help them. I can only provide diapers and his food. That's why I am trying to reach International charities who can help him fix his cleft palate so he can eat and drink his milk comfortably.

Baby Joseph

5) This song was written by Daryl Hall, of Hall and Oates. What's your favorite Hall and Oates song?
 Kiss on my list.

6) In 1985, when this song was popular, the New Coke was unsuccessfully introduced. What's the last beverage you drank?

7) In 1985, the New York Stock Exchange had to close because of Hurricane Gloria. Has a hurricane shared your name?

8) 1985 was the year that the Titanic wreckage was discovered. There have been at least 11 movies and TV shows about the fatal voyage. Have you seen any of them?
Yes! I am a fan of Titanic. I still consider it as one of the greatest movie of all time. Oh, but Avengers: End Game is awesome!

9) Random question: Would you rather own and run a coffee shop or a shoe store? Why?
I would want to have a coffee shop. I am into cooking and baking it will be a good match.

Saturday 9: Young and Beautiful (2013)

Saturday, March 23, 2019

1) Lana Del Rey wrote this song for the soundtrack of The Great Gatsby. She wanted it to reflect the feelings of Daisy Buchanan. Have you read The Great Gatsby?
No. But, I have seen the movie.

2) In the 1970s, Robert Redford portrayed Jay Gatsby. In the 2013 version, Leonardo di Caprio played the part. In real life, both "Gatsbys" have helped raised funds for the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council). Are you careful about recycling and conserving water/electricity?
Always. I usually recycle water I used for washing dishes and clothes. I used it to water the plants.

3) Lana Del Rey admits that she dropped out of college because she simply could not get the required math credits. When confronted with basic addition, subtraction, multiplication or division, do you do it in your head? Reach for pencil and paper? Or do you take advantage of the calculator that's on your desktop or phone?
I usually do it with my head, but with thousands I have to grab my phone.

4) She enjoys Kurt Cobain, Eminem, Elvis and Sinatra. Which of those four gentlemen did you listen to most recently?
Frank Sinatra. My sons sleeps well listening to his songs.

5) Speaking of Sinatras, she has described her high maintenance look -- big hair, long nails, elaborate eye makeup, full lips -- as "Gangster Nancy Sinatra." How long does it take you, on an average day, to prepare to face the world?
Ten minutes is okay. I don't wear make up. I go with baby powder and lip tint and I am good to go.

6) She's a big soccer fan, and her favorite team is Liverpool FC. Here in the US, college basketball fans are currently obsessed with March Madness. What's the last sporting event that you watched?
I'll be watching The Iron man event tomorrow. It will be held here in our city.

7) Her younger sister, Caroline, studied photography and is responsible for some of Lana's publicity pictures. Have you ever gotten a job because of a relative?

8) In 2013, when this song came out, Pope Francis became the first pope from a Latin American country. Latin America generally includes Mexico, most of Central and South America, and in the Caribbean, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. What's the farthest south that you've ever traveled?
The farthest place I have ever been is Thailand.

9) Random question -- What button would you prefer your life to have: rewind, fast forward or a pause?
PAUSE. I usually buy and shop things I don't need. I don't like it.
